Urban Meyer was obviously not off the hook for his night out antics in Ohio that went viral over the weekend. So on Monday, when he addressed reporters for the first time since the incident hit the limelight, he at least seemed contrite.
“I just apologized to the team and staff and for being a distraction. It was stupid,” the Jaguars head coach said during his Monday press conference. “I explained everything that happened and owned it. Just stupid. Should not have myself in that kind of position.”
Video surfaced of Meyer dancing with a younger woman obviously not his wife at an Ohio bar on Friday night. That video went viral and by Sunday morning, a photo shared on a woman’s social media of her with Meyer with the caption, “who is this he keeps flirting with me,” also surfaced.
Meyer said his family was upset and that he apologized to them, as well.

Meyer had obviously been with the Jaguars in Ohio for their Thursday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals. After the Jags lost Meyer elected not to return back to Jacksonville with his team. He instead stayed in the area to visit family that still live there, the coach explained Monday in his admission to the team and media.
“I stayed to see the grand kids and we all went to dinner that night at a restaurant,” Meyer continued. “Then there was a big group next to our restaurant, they wanted me to come over and take pictures and I did. Tried to pull me out on the dance floor, screwing around and I should have left.
“So the team, I spoke to a bunch of leaders one-on-one, spoke to all the players, they’re good, they’re focused on Tennessee,” Meyer said on how his team received his apology. “I apologized again for being a distraction. A coach should not be a distraction.”
