Portage Event Partnership to host Light Up the Gourds!

For the second year, the Portage Events Partnership (PEP) will be hosting Light Up the Gourds!, a walking illuminated pumpkin trail, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 29 and 30 at Imagination Glen Park, 2275 McCool Road, Portage. There will be a $5 per car entry fee. This year’s family-friendly event will be a walk-through paved trail. Businesses, service groups and nonprofits are invited to participate by creating original scenes that will be highlighted along the trail. Walk and Talk with an Orthopedic Surgeon

Community Healthcare System and Gabis Arboretum at Purdue Northwest will host Walk and Talk with Venkat Kavuri, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon at 9 a.m. Wednesday at 45 W 100 N Valparaiso. Kavuri will offer tips to “walk this way to a healthy back.” Attendees will meet at the Celebration Rose Pavilion and walk to the arboretum’s wetland. Golf cart transportation will be available for those who choose not to walk. Program participation is free and registration is encouraged. Trunk or Treat, Movie Night at Sunset Hill

Porter County Parkin and Recreation will host the first Trunk or Treat and drive-in Movie Night on Friday at Sunset Hill Farm County Park, 775 Meridian Road, Valparaiso. Trunk or Treat will be held from 4 and 6 p.m. in the main parking lot. Costumes are encouraged. The drive-in movie will feature “Hocus Pocus,” and will start at approximately 6 p.m. in the South Field parking lot. There will be other activities and food vendors. Tickets are $20 per vehicle and can be purchased at portercountyparks.org/trunk-or-treat.

PNW to host upcoming events

Purdue Northwest (PNW) will host two upcoming events. The inaugural Hispanic Heritage Festival will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday at Founders Plaza on campus, 2200 169th St., Hammond. The event caps off the university’s Hispanic Heritage Month recognition, featuring local food and craft vendors, musicians, dancing, and more family-friendly activities to celebrate the Hispanic community in Northwest Indiana. The event is open to the public. More information is at www.pnw.edu/hhm. The first of two Preview PNW events will take place at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hammond campus. The preview event offers prospective students the chance to find their areas of interest with PNW’s available undergraduate programs, as well as learn about campus life and housing, scholarships and financial aid. Purdue Extension Senior Wellness Series

A Senior Wellness Series presented by Purdue Extension Educator, Health and Human Sciences, Linda Curley, will be offered via Zoom at 2 p.m. CT on Wednesdays, Oct. 20, 27 and Nov. 3. Topics to be covered include active aging, food as medicine and healthy low-cost eating. Register at https://tinyurl.com/PEseniorwellness. CURE offers online sessions for learners of all ages

Indiana University Northwest’s Center for Urban and Regional Excellence (CURE) offers a variety of remote learning opportunities for all ages through its Community Garden, Adult Education, Reading Skills and Senior University programs. CURE is enrolling now for “Business Building Basics,” a three-part Zoom series, from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Wednesday through Oct. 27. Registration deadline is Tuesday.
