Pipe dream would make port crowding even worse

I’m afraid Charles Selle’s pipeline to revitalizing Waukegan Harbor with container ships is just a pipe dream.

Most container ships are far too large to get through the St. Lawrence Seaway. There are so-called feeder ships that can be used in smaller ports, but they wouldn’t be used to ship across the ocean.

So the usual cargo ships would have to dock at a major port, then reload onto several smaller ships that could get to Waukegan. This unload/reload process would just make the crowding at our port facilities worse.
