State Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, will collect winter coats and other winter clothing items at three sites in Aurora from Nov. 15 to 19 to donate to residents in need.

“Many families in our community do not have the resources to use for new clothing items each year to keep them warm in the winter months, especially with the financial hardships brought on by the pandemic,” said Hernandez in a press release.

Hernandez is coordinating her winter clothing drive with Good Morning Aurora and Alive Aurora. Items needed include new or gently used winter coats, socks, long underwear, jackets, scarves, gloves, mittens, hats and snow boots.

Donations can be dropped off from Nov. 15 to 19 at Hernandez’s District Office, 540 W. Galena Blvd., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday; Good Morning Aurora, 5 E. Downer Place, Suite T, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday; and Alive Aurora, 78 S. LaSalle St., from 2:45 to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Yorkville Sons of American Legion to hold breakfast

The Yorkville Sons of The American Legion are holding its first monthly breakfast fundraiser of the season from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, at the Yorkville American Legion, 9054 E. Veterans Parkway in Yorkville.

The plated buffet consists of pancakes, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, tomato juice, orange juice, milk and coffee. The cost is $9 for adults, $8 for those 55 years old and older, $7 for those 13 to 20 years old and $4 for those 6 to 12 years old.

‘Magical Evening’ fundraiser to benefit Ecker Center

Tickets are on sale for “One Magical Evening: A Fest of Food and Illusion,” a fundraising benefit for Ecker Center for Behavioral Health based in Elgin being held Saturday, Nov. 20, at the Royal Fox Country Club in St. Charles.

The event, which starts at 7 p.m., will feature a dinner, diamond draw, wine grab and silent auction. The auction will online in addition to in person to expand the number of people able to participate, a news release said.

Entertainment will be provided by Zazz, an alternative jazz trio, and illusionist Dennis Christie.

Tickets are $125 for individuals, $225 for couples and $900 for tables of eight. They are available online through www.eckercenter.org/events or www.eventbrite.com.

Ecker Center provides behavioral health care services for children, adolescents and adults in the Elgin community. It has offices in Elgin, Streamwood and St. Charles and a psychiatric emergency office inside Advocate Aurora Sherman Hospital’s Emergency Department in Elgin.
