The victim in Sunday night’s shooting in the 800 block of Jefferson Avenue has been identified as a 22-year-old Elgin woman, the Kane County Coroner’s Office said.
Crystal Lopez died at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin hours after the 6:30 p.m. incident occurred. An autopsy Monday showed the cause of death to be consistent with a gunshot wound, a coroner’s office news release. Toxicology samples were taken and sent to a forensic lab for analysis.
Police have released no information about how the shooting occurred or what might have provoked it. The police department would only confirm that the case is being actively investigated.
The shooting is the 61st gunfire incident in Elgin since the start of the year.
