One person was in custody after speeding off in an ambulance and causing a traffic crash on the Near North Side about 10 miles away Wednesday, police said.
It happened about 9 a.m. when paramedics who were helping a patient left their ambulance empty and running in the 7500 block of South Stony Island Avenue, according to Officer Ana Pacheco, a police spokeswoman.
After jumping into the ambulance, the suspect rear-ended a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban in the northbound lanes of the 700 block of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive, about 10 miles away, and was taken into custody.
Nobody was injured and charges were pending, police said.
