Hunting, fishing, trapping license fees to increase

For the first time since 2006, Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Division of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) will increase fees for hunting, fishing and trapping licenses. Commercial license fees also will increase, some for the first time since the 1980s. The increases will be applied to personal licenses that go on sale Jan. 1 for the 2022-23 license year, April 1, 2022 through March 31, 2023. The fee increase does not affect licenses for the remainder of the 2021-2022 license year, which ends on March 31, even if those licenses are purchased after Jan. 1. The new fees allow DFW to maintain core programs including habitat restoration, maintenance of public lands, scientific research and education and expansion of other services to manage Indiana’s fish and wildlife. Funds also will go to the DNR Division of Law Enforcement to ensure it is equipped to provide public safety and enforce the laws governing natural resources. The new license prices were determined by comparing license fees among other Midwestern states and balancing the rising costs of resource management. More information on these changes, including a full list of the new fees, can be found at dnr.IN.gov/fish-and-wildlife/licenses-and-permits/fee-changes. Police to increase patrols during holidays

The Indiana State Police will be increasing patrols during the holiday season as part of a statewide crackdown on impaired driving. Through Jan. 1, offices will be on high alert for anyone driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Law enforcements also will be watching for seat belt violations and other forms of dangerous driving. Motorists can report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911 or by contacting the Indiana State Police at 317-232-8248.

Callout for first PNW Alumni Hall of Fame class

Purdue University Northwest (PNW) is calling for nominations of impactful alumni to be honored in its first induction of a new PNW Alumni Hall of Fame. The callout, a component of PNW’s ongoing 5-75 Roaring Ahead anniversary celebration, will honor distinguished graduates from PNW and its legacy institutions, Purdue Calumet and Purdue North Central. PNW is establishing the Alumni Hall of Fame as part of the yearlong celebration of the fifth year of Purdue Northwest, and the 75th year of both legacy campuses. The inaugural class will be honored at a gala event in June 2022. Proceeds from the gala will go toward scholarships for PNW students. PNW seeks nominations of alumni who are high-achieving leaders in their fields, involved members of their community, and those who have engaged with PNW well beyond their time as students. Nomination deadline is Jan. 9. The form and more information can be found at pnw.edu/roaring-ahead
