Kane County officials will honor the more than 1,000 county residents who have died from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic in 2020 at a memorial ceremony Friday.
Several officials are expected to speak at the noon ceremony, where a wreath will be laid at the steps of the Kane County Courthouse at 100 S. Third St. in Geneva, according to a news release. The event is open to the public and is expected to last around 20 minutes.
As of Thursday, Kane County has seen 117,562 total coronavirus cases and 1,022 people have died with COVID-19.
Kane and DuPage counties combined saw a decrease in COVID-19 hospitalizations over the last week after peaking with 789 patients on Jan. 18. Now the region is down to 653 total patients with COVID-19 as of Wednesday.
Kane County’s seven-day COVID-19 test positivity rate decreased to 25.1% as of Wednesday.

Kane County Board Chair Corinne Pierog, Kane County Health Department Interim Executive Director Kathy Fosser, Kane County Coroner Rob Russell and Fox Valley Hands of Hope Executive Director Jonathan Shively are expected to speak at the memorial event Friday.
