Operation HerStory focus of Wednesday discussion

State Sen. Laura Ellman, D-Naperville, state Rep. Janet Yang Rohr, D-Naperville, and retired U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Ginny Narsete will hold a Women’s History Month panel discussion at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, on Facebook live.

The event will focus on Operation HerStory, founded by Narsete and Navy Reserve Judge Lis Pennix, which organizes veterans’ flights to Washington, D.C., for female veterans from Illinois. During the trips, participants visit war memorials built in their honor, including the Women in Military Service For America Memorial and the Vietnam Women’s Memorial.

Operation HerStory’s first flight was taken by 93 women in October. Some of the vets who participated will be featured in the panel discussion.

Naperville’s two golf courses open this week

The Naperbrook Golf Course will open Wednesday, March 16, and the Springbrook Golf Course will open Friday, March 18, for golfers who walk between holes.

Golf carts will be available once conditions allow, and updates will be posted on www.golfnaperville.org.

Improvements have been made to both courses since last season.

Naperbrook’s driving range and practice green were expanded, and the turf range tee and practice green will open later this spring.

Drainage improvements were made at Springbrook last fall.

In late summer, $3.5 million in renovations will be made at Springbrook, including improvements to the bunkers, green surrounds and tees, park district officials said.

Naperville garden plot registration starts March 22

Naperville residents can register for garden plots at the Ron Ory Community Garden starting at noon, Tuesday, March 22.

Plot rentals will open to nonresidents starting at noon Thursday, March 24.

New or experienced gardeners can rent garden space, and tutorials are available on the Naperville Park District’s website to help garden planting and management. Full, half and raised plots are available.
