Investigators on Friday were still trying to determine what caused a fire in an apartment complex in Glenview on March 15 that caused more than $300,000 in damage, authorities said.

On March 15 shortly before 12 p.m. the Glenview fire department was dispatched for an activated fire alarm at a multifamily building at 4350 West Lake Avenue in the North Suburb, authorities said. They said when firefighters arrived there was smoke in the hallway and an “active fire” was in the walls and other “void spaces” of the building.

Firefighters initiated an interior fire attack with hose-line deployments to multiple floors of the building and the fire was extinguished by 12:40 p.m., said authorities.

They said all occupants of the building escaped safely due to working smoke detectors. Glenview firefighters were assisted by Niles, North Maine, Northbrook, Northfield, Morton Grove and Prospect Heights Fire Departments, along with the Cook County Sheriff’s Police, the Cook County Building Department, and Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office, said authorities.

There was about $250,000 in damage to the building and $75,000 of personal belongings were lost, officials said. The cause of the fire on Friday was undetermined and was under investigation by the Glenview Fire Department’s Origin and Cause Investigative Team, authorities said.
