An Elgin man convicted of sexually abusing two children under the age of 13 has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Jacob Headtke, 32, the 600 block of Bent Street, was found guilty by a jury in June 2021 of aggravated criminal sexual abuse for his actions involving one of the children between Oct. 1, 2015, and June 1, 2016, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said.

After the jury conviction, Headtke pleaded guilty to charges of attempted aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving a second child.

Under state law, Headtke is eligible for day-for-day sentencing and will receive credit for the 258 days he spent in the Kane County jail awaiting the case’s resolution.

He also must register for life as a sexual offender.

“The victims in this case bravely came forward years ago to stop the defendant from hurting other children,” Assistant State’s Attorney David Belshan said in a statement.

“They persevered through a lengthy legal process, faced their abuser in court and testified about how he sexually abused them. Justice has been served and the defendant will now serve prison time for his vile and criminal acts.”
