Portage City Council members are returning to their City Hall chamber Tuesday for the first time in about six years as the entire first floor underwent extensive renovations.
Council members will be housed in a new first floor area that once was home to the Fire Department’s Station 3, which moved down the street into new quarters in 2016. Previously, the chamber was on the second floor, which is now used for offices.
The public can view all the updates beginning at 5 p.m. before Tuesday’s 6:30 p.m. council meeting.
The project, begun under former mayor James Snyder, includes a renovated clerk-treasurer’s office and a new ADA-compliant elevator, so citizens who can’t use the stairs, can reach the building’s second floor.
The council has been meeting at Woodland Park.
