Annual St. Sophia Greek Fest set for this weekend

The public is invited to attend the St. Sophia Greek Fest, scheduled for noon to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 8-9, and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday, July 10, on Elgin church grounds at 525 Church Road.

Admission is free. The gathering will feature a variety of Greek dishes and desserts, dancing, music, tours of the church and a drive-through area to purchase meals. Crafts and vendors will be set up in an inside marketplace.

Concerts, food trucks in South Elgin’s Panton Mill Park

The village of South Elgin is hosting two concerts, both with food trucks offering concessions, Wednesday, July 6 at Panton Mill Park, 10 N. Water St.

Wendy & DB will perform family-friendly tunes from 11 a.m. to noon, with food available for sale from the Pierogi Rig truck

One Foot in the Groove will play horn-driven classic rock from 6:30 to 8 p.m., with food available from Cesaroni BBQ.

Plant Band plays West Dundee’s Grafelman Park Friday

The Plant Band will play classic rock, R&B, funk, blues and contemporary tunes in a free concert from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 8, in Grafelman Park, 112 N. Fifth St., West Dundee.

The concert is sponsored by the Dundee Township Park District and the village of West Dundee.

St. Charles business group looking for volunteers

Looking to educate and reach out to new volunteers, the St. Charles Business Alliance is hosting “Get the Scoop on Volunteering” from 3 to 6 p.m., July 18, at Kimmer’s Ice Cream at 1 Illinois St. in St. Charles.

Attendees receive one free scoop of ice cream if they talk with the Alliance’s representatives, a news release said.

Volunteer opportunities a variety of options with the Alliance’s committees, including marketing and promotions, organization, business development and sales, and events like the fine art show.

“It can be pretty intimidating to volunteer,” St. Charles Business Alliance Executive Director Jenna Sawicki said in the release. “We wanted to give people a ‘sweet’ reason to learn about volunteering. We have a lot of great opportunities and hope people can come out.”
