Free child ID and safety seat event Saturday in Bartlett
A Kids Identification and Safety Seat event will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at the Bartlett Police Department, 228 S. Main St.
Held by the Illinois Tollway and Illinois State Police District 15, the program will provide free identification cards for children ages 3 and older and child safety car seat inspections and installations.
Also featured will be a touch-a-truck display that includes a Tollway H.E.L.P. truck, snow plow and local emergency vehicles; Trooper Cooper, a talking, child-sized Illinois State Police car that offers simple safety tips to toddlers and young children; and indoor and outdoor play areas.

Elgin holding ‘End of Summer Bash’ Aug. 26 in Festival Park
An “End of Summer Bash,” featuring a concert, food trucks and fireworks, will be held from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Elgin’s Festival Park.
Originally planned for the Fourth of July, the free event at the 132 S. Grove Ave. park will have food trucks set up on Grove Avenue between Prairie Street and Lake Street from 4 to 9:30 p.m.
Modern Day Romeos will perform at 7 p.m. followed by a fireworks show starting about 9:20 p.m.
The gathering will be held concurrently with the Downtown Elgin Farmers Market, which is open from 3 to 7 p.m. along Spring Street, between Chicago Street and Fulton Avenue.
To accommodate the fireworks display, South Grove Avenue between Prairie Street and National Street, National Street between South Grove Avenue and State Street will be closed starting at 3 p.m. No one will be allowed to cross the National Street bridge.

School supplies need for Hanover Township backpack
Hanover Township is asking the community for donations of school supplies and backpacks for children returning to school in the fall.
The items most needed are backpacks, notebooks, loose leaf paper, pencils, markers, crayons, scissors, flash drives, blue pens and glue sticks. Donations of gift cards to purchase school supply items are also being accepted.
Last school year, more than 1,400 backpacks filled with school supplies were given to youths who live in Hanover Township, which includes parts of Elgin.
Supplies can be dropped off at Hanover Town Hall, 250 S. Route 59, Bartlett; Hanover Township Senior Center, 240 S. Route 59, Bartlett; Hanover Township Astor Avenue Community Center, 7431 Astor Ave., Hanover Park; and Hanover Township Izaak Walton Youth Center, 899 Jay St., Elgin.
Backpack distribution will run from Aug. 9-12 by appointment only and while supplies last.

Saturday June Band doing free concert in Carpenter Park
The village of Carpentersville and the Dundee Township Park District are presenting a free concert by the Saturday June Band from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 22, in Carpenter Park, 275 Maple Ave., Carpentersville.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase from the Kiwanis Club and the Kona Ice truck.

Scales & Tales Traveling Zoo coming to Lords Park
Scales & Tales Traveling Zoo will offer up-close animal encounters from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23, inside Lords Park/Tefft’s Farm Zoo, 325 Hiawatha Drive, Elgin.
Sponsored by Friends of Lords Park Zoo, attendees will get a chance to pet Xena, the two-toed sloth, and other animals during the free event.
