A 15-year-old was charged with stealing a black BMW and fleeing and eluding Thursday in Elgin Township, Kane County sheriff’s department officials said in a news release.
The teen was also charged with reckless driving, no valid driver’s license, obstructing a peace officer, possession of cannabis and several traffic citations, according to authorities in the release.
Five other juveniles, between the ages of 14 and 16, were each charged with criminal trespass to motor vehicle, authorities said.
According to the release, the incident started around 5:30 a.m. Thursday when deputies responded to the 1000 block of Woodcliff Drive in unincorporated Elgin Township for a report of a stolen black BMW. A deputy saw the vehicle going south on Route 31, South LaFox Street in South Elgin. A second vehicle, a white BMW, was also in the area, which deputies said was a possible chase vehicle.
Deputies followed the black car, which ended up crashing into a vehicle in the area of Stearns Road and Mclean Boulevard. The white BMW crashed into a second car, according to the release.
Sheriff’s deputies saw the teens exit both vehicles and flee on foot, the release states.
The juveniles were taken into custody after a brief chase. Three of the juveniles were taken to a local hospital for injuries sustained in the crash and fleeing through heavy brush but were treated and released.
South Elgin, St. Charles, Bartlett and Campton Hills police departments assisted the sheriff’s office, authorities said in the release.
