Road closure in Schererville

West 85th Avenue and Rohrman Road from Cline Avenue to Burr Street in Schererville are closed for culvert replacement and are expected to reopen by 3 p.m. Wednesday. Local residents west of 85th Place have access from Cline Avenue. Residents east of 85th Place have access from Burr Street. All traffic is encouraged to plan ahead in using alternate roadways to avoid the work zone and closure areas whenever possible. More information is at 219-322-6688.

An evening of jazz and blues at the Diamond Center

Will Miller and the Jazz Gang will present the “Coming Home Jazz and Blues Series” from 6 to 11 p.m. on Wednesday at the Diamond Center, 500 E. Fifth Ave., Gary. Biking and birding at Hobart Prairie Grove

Join a ranger for a birding-themed bike ride from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Indiana Dunes National Park’s Hobart Prairie Grove, Oak Savanna trail. Community HealthNet Back2School Fair

Community HealthNet Health Centers will hold a Back2School Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at 1021 W. Fifth Ave., Gary. The event will offer school physicals, immunizations and Covid vaccinations, haircuts, backpacks and school supplies while they last, food and raffles and college funding options. Church to host back to school event

St. Timothy Community Church will host the Back 2 School/Back 2 Christ Jam from Noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday at 1600 W. 25th Ave., Gary. Backpacks and school supplies will be distributed while they last, and a limited amount of laptops will be raffled. Special guests include officials from the City of Gary, the I Am Them Foundation and the R.O.O.T.S Foundation. There will be food, games, vendors, prizes and music. St. Elijah Cathedral’s SerbFest family picnic

Outdoor family dining, live tamburitza music and great food and pastries are on the agenda for St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Cathedral’s SerbFest picnic that will take place from 11 a.m. to Midnight on Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at 8700 Taft St., Merrillville. Craft Serbian beers, fresh spit-roasted barbecued lamb and pig, char-grilled sausages, Serbian style stuffed cabbage and other entrees will be offered. In addition, there will be a variety of pastries available including Serbian donuts, crepes, homemade cookies, cakes, and apple and cheese strudels.
