Police are looking for two people of interest in the killing of Tavares Davis, the owner of The Funnel Cake Man, police said.
Davis, whose business The Funnel Cake Man is located in Orland Square mall and Southlake Mall in Merrillville, was fatally shot in the 15500 block of Drexel Avenue Aug. 2, according to the Dolton Police Department.
Police said they are looking for a 27-year-old and another man seen fleeing the scene in a Chevrolet Malibu with Michigan license plates, calling them both persons of interest.
Surveillance video shows the 27-year-old entering a white Mercedes-Benz SUV with other people, including Davis, police said. Davis was fatally shot and then thrown from the vehicle, police said.
Dolton police Chief Robert Collins said Wednesday there are no updates in the case. Collins did confirm there is a $5,000 reward is being offered for information in the case.
Dolton Trustee Andrew Holmes said he questions how Davis and those in the car knew each other given that Davis was robbed before being shot.
“The nature of the crime is very upsetting,” Holmes said. “(Police) have some solid leads that they’re working on.”
Dolton police ask anyone with information to call the investigations division at 708-201-3200.
