All-American senior outside Kira Hutson (Florida) returns to lead a nearly all-new crew for the defending 4A state champion. Senior libero Brenda Reynaga is one of only three others with varsity experience. Sophomore setter Kelly McGrath and junior middle Anna Murphy are top newcomers.

Middle hitters Nina Davis and Sophia Zanca are the only returning players, though both exceeded a .300 hitting percentage. Coach Brie Isaacson said the Redhawks will be inexperienced but have a lot of athleticism and potential.

The Huskies return eight players from a team that went 26-10 and reached a 4A regional final. Senior outside Paige Lauterwasser, a fourth-year starter, is expected to dominate. Also back are senior setter Natalie Corcoran, senior middle Shelby Erickson and junior libero Sydney Kushner.

Neuqua Valley

First-year coach Jamie Buhnerkemper has two stars she can rely on: senior outside Bryanna Jones and senior Anja Kelly, who can play both outside and middle. Senior Skylar Fildew (St. Olaf’s) takes over at setter. Jones’ sister Alyssa, a sophomore, leads the defense.

Coach Kari Galen said the team has upgraded its defense after winning six matches last season and is hoping to be less predictable on offense. Senior setter Katie Godo (North Central College) has a few more weapons to work with, including senior outside Ashlyn Hickey, an all-conference special mention selection.
