Add Dr. Deborah Birx to the list of people who, while working under the Trump administration, stayed quiet for too long and now has a tell-all book, because the government pension she so cautiously protected rather than speaking out and jeopardizing her job isn’t enough. Dr. Anthony Fauci is probably already working on his. So much for the Hippocratic oath.

Headline reads Patrick Sheehan concedes to Democrat Michael Hastings. Yes, Hastings won again. I for one held my nose and voted for him. I did not like it because of what I read about the reason he was getting a divorce, but I just could not vote for the Republican candidate. Sometimes you are caught in between the rock and the hard place, and that is what my vote was.

I look forward to the Monday Sports section as creative reporters come up with a new list of reasons why the Bears played well but lost. Yet, the team continues to set records. A channel 32 sportscaster advised after yesterday’s game that Bears are the first NFL team to score at least 29 points in three consecutive games and lose all three. Now that the Bears offense has finally come alive, their defense is using difficulty stopping opponents.

Four hundred jets fly the climate activists from around the world to their annual conference where they talk about things on which they all agree. If they really feel they need to save the planet, perhaps they could conference by Zoom and spare the luxury lifestyle.

The White Sox are a team that’s trying to be competitive. They don’t have any intention to win the World Series. If they had any intention to win it all they would have hired a top-flight manager. Spend some money Jerry, and get what the team needs: a proved starter, a doctor who can keep the players on the field and a coach who can teach them the art of bunting, better fielding, which they displayed all year.

The Donald is once again running for president. And once again, he believes we need an old geezer in the White House. He now needs to choose a running mate and why not Kari Lake, who just lost Arizona governor’s race. A perfect choice. He likes them young and attractive. Perhaps Melania should be concerned about having her as first lady in Washington and perhaps first lady at Mar-a-Lago.

Bill from Plainfield, you asked if we’ll remember not getting the promised student debt relief next time we vote. Absolutely. It was a Trump approved judge who overturned it in response to six Republican states who filed suit. I guess those six GOP states don’t have citizens with student debt. Yep, we will remember next time we vote.

Bill, please explain how a judges’ hold on tuition reimbursement is President Biden’s fault. I still think that the tuition plan will eventually proceed successfully.

Regarding abortion, it seems to me that it boils down to this. Some people and theologians believe that life begins at conception. If that is true then abortion at any time is murder. Others believe that life does not begin until the fetus is viable, and abortion before that is not taking a human life. I’m not a scientist so I don’t know which is correct. But murder is against the law.

I am amused by the TV commercial for Jewel Food Stores. In the commercial, employees are smiling and chatting with customers and seem to be having a good time. Well, that is not the case at the Jewel store I shop at. The employees look stressed out, do not smile and do not engage with customers that I can see. Maybe other Jewel stores in the area are like the commercial.

In February, President Biden said his sanctions would prevent/stop Russia from invading Ukraine. That was almost 10 months ago. What a weak response that was.

The Democrats despised Trump since 2016. Now though, they know they have nothing to run on in 2024. Now they are all behind him announcing that he’s a ’24 presidential candidate. They know Ron DeSantis is rising. They’d love nothing more than cause more division in the Republican Party then to have a rift between both.

The rural counties of Illinois described in Ted Slowik’s column that want to break away from the state of Illinois should be careful what they wish for. It has been common knowledge for decades that the rural areas of the state regularly receive more tax money from Springfield than they send to the state capital, according to the Southern Illinois University Paul Simon Public Policy Institute. This desire to secede from the state is delusional and almost constitutionally impossible. The residents of these counties should think long and hard about how they feel on this issue.

I was just reading about Mayor Lori Lightfoot parking in the bike lane and she says, well, they shouldn’t have done it. Why does she have them park there while she goes in and orders her doughnuts? Come on now. Anybody else that gets a ticket for stopping in the bike lane should be set free. You did it to get doughnuts. Just what you really need. You want to eat doughnuts instead of taking care of the city where people are getting shot and killed and everything else all the time.

Apparently Mayor Lightfoot doesn’t know how to set an example. She was in the vehicle with her security detail, why didn’t she say to them don’t park in the bicycle lane? Or does she feel as mayor the laws don’t apply to her. I would think that as mayor she knows that eyes are always on her and she has to set an example, which she has failed to do repeatedly. Being arrogant and looking down on people and talking down to people is not the best way for people to vote for you.
