Two teens have been charged so far in connection with an armed carjacking in Hammond.
Cyrus Seven Jefferson, 18, of Chicago Heights, Illinois, and Jeremy “Lil Jayski” Wallace, 17, of Hammond, were charged Thursday as adults with armed robbery, two counts of intimidation and one count of auto theft, according to Lake Superior Court records.
An arrest warrant was issued Thursday for Wallace with orders to be held on an $8,000 bond.
Jefferson is being held without bond until Dec. 24 when it will be reset to $8,000 cash surety. A public defender was appointed Friday.
A third person was also implicated. He was not named in court records.
Hammond Police were called just before 6 p.m. Dec. 6 to the 1000 block of Mulberry Street for a reported robbery and car theft.
A woman told police she had pulled up in her black Chevrolet Tahoe and told her husband she was going to go out for her birthday, when three men approached.
A man in a yellow hoodie pointed a gun at her husband, who was standing by a vehicle door, ordering him to get on the ground. The man came around and told her to get out of the vehicle, pulling up his mask to show his face, which she thought was “weird”. The woman grabbed her child.
The three men got in the Tahoe and took off. She went inside to call 911, while her husband followed it in another car.
A patrol officer spotted the SUV on the 1000 block of 173rd Street. Near the Jarnecke Avenue intersection, the SUV stopped and all three men ran. Jefferson was stopped and arrested by an officer by gunpoint on the 7300 block of Jarnecke, according to court records.
Jefferson said he was with a pair nicknamed “Lil Jayski” and “Lil Zane” when the former pulled out a gun to steal the vehicle, according to the affidavit.
Wallace had dated one of the woman’s relatives, according to court documents.
