Valparaiso Police advises citizens to be aware of gift card scams

The Valparaiso Police have received several complaints detailing financial scams being utilized in the area. In multiple incidents, citizens are being asked to pay large sums of money to third parties in the form of gift cards, wire transfers and mailed check payments to protect themselves against hacked computer accounts or alleged illegal activities. Valparaiso Police can be reached at 219-462-2135 for assistance and guidance or to report any suspicious activity that may have occurred.

Recycling and Waste Reduction District accepting applicants

Registration is open until Jan. 6 for the Citizens Advisory Committee for the Recycling and Waste Reduction District. The applications can be found via PorterCountyRecycling.org, and applicants will complete a short form detailing educational and work background. A minimum of one applicant must be a solid waste industry representative.

The camp offers individuals of all ages and abilities an experience of fun games and educational activities, and attendees can develop in areas such as communication, problem solving and self-reliance.
