Hee-haw! There’s an unsubstantiated rumor making the rounds that there is to be a remake of “It’s A Wonderful Life.” However, in this version the main character is Donald Trump, the locale is Mar-a-Lago and no one is worse off if the obnoxious leading man never existed.
Entertaining TV: The Washington Post and The New York Times stated the Jan. 6 committee and hearings were one of the best TV shows for 2022. Which just proves my point. It was nothing but a TV show, just like “Gilligan’s Island” and “I Dream of Jeannie.”
How can they not see? Biden’s backers have got to be blind. He’s like an arsonist with a flamethrower. He starts a nationwide blaze, sees the harm it causes, then asks all the people it affects to help him put out the fire. This fire starter is running amok.
Reality check: The Jan. 6 Committee has sent referrals to the Department of Justice on Donald Trump for obstruction of an official proceeding and conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to make a false statement and to incite, assist, or aid or comfort an insurrection. These are all federal crimes. Can’t wait to hear the MAGA minions say how Joe Biden’s Justice Department is going to put these fake charges on Trump. Maybe once he is indicted and serves time, the MAGA crazies will finally get it.
Skyrocketing drug prices: Contributors have been writing about the gas and milk prices. What’s high is the cost of over-the-counter medicine prices. At Walgreens, a little bottle of Afrin nose spray is $9.99. A regular bottle of Robitussin is $15.99. Halls cough drops is $6.99 for 80 drops. Nyquil is $10.99. Mucinex is $16.99. Coupons and deals only help so much. Often, they’re downright insulting. One coupon I saw was a measly 50 cents off a bottle of medicine that is $12 in most stores. What a savings!
Selective tears: Lori Lightfoot has gotten a jump on all the other mayoral candidates by running expensive, well-produced TV ads. In one ad, she sheds tears and talks of growing up with three siblings. That ad inadvertently provides a sad reminder about surviving siblings, and other family members, of 836 people murdered in Chicago in 2021. By mid-December, the city’s 2022 murder total reached 672. The latest victims included students shot right outside their high school. Has the mayor ever shed a tear about surviving siblings of these victims?
