A young woman found in a West Side alley had been shot to death, officials said Thursday.
A neighbor returning home from work spotted the 20-year-old Chicago woman about 2:55 a.m. Wednesday lying face down in an alley in the 2200 block of South Drake Avenue, police said. Her cell phone was found nearby.
A Thursday autopsy determined the woman died of a gunshot wound to the head and her death was ruled a homicide, said the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The identity of the woman, who lived about a mile away from where she found, was not being released immediately pending notification of her family.
Police said the woman may not have been shot at the Drake Avenue address.
