State Police stepping up night enforcement in March
Illinois State Police Troop 15 Cmdr. Linda Mandat has announced the State Police will conduct special Nighttime Enforcement patrols in DuPage and Kane counties during March.
The patrols allow the State Police to focus on preventing, detecting and taking enforcement in response to impaired driving and occupant restraint violations, especially between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., according to a news release.
The number of unrestrained drivers killed in traffic crashes is significantly higher at nighttime, and the odds increase because of the number of impaired drivers at night, the release said.
Alcohol and drug impairment are factors in more than 30% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois, more than half of which occur at night in Illinois, officials said.
The project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
