Republicans will force a 10-year-old to carry her rapist’s baby to term, allow a 12-year-old girl to marry, let a 13-year-old boy to work in a meat packing company and hand a nine-year-old a gun, but do go on about woke liberals who won’t protect your son from a gay child in school.
So the State Senate wants parents to be able to challenge books in school libraries that they find objectionable including those with inappropriate sexual content. I guess that means we will have to get rid of Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged. While Rand may be the intellectual darling of the right, we don’t need our children reading books that involve forcible rape. Will someone please think of the children!
Many have questioned, rightfully so, the ethics and even legality of the actions taken by Valparaiso University officials regarding the Brauer Art Museum’s most precious works. My opinion is just that, only a theory, but perhaps can shed some light. Contrary to the right wing’s constant whiny claims that all of academia is ruled by flaming leftist liberals, I believe many university administrations in this backward state of ours are just as right wing as the extreme elected officials that sadly run this state. I graduated from one of them almost 50 years ago that today is known as Trine University in Angola. Still to this day the majority of the guest speakers they deem worthy to address their student body are far right or religious right conservatives — everyone from Bobby Knight and Lou Holtz to Jim Banks and Mitt Romney. So much for liberals run amuck. Also, Republicans have always thumbed their collective noses at the arts. They have forever sought to “defund” public television, public radio, the national endowment for the arts, and the like. So don’t be surprised at the short sighted money grab by this struggling conservative university.
Seriously, railroads shouldn’t have government imposed standards but instead should regulate themselves? I bet you and your son walked to school in blizzards uphill both ways.
Well, you could have predicted this. The cadre of Fox lying liars is now claiming they’re the only ones telling the truth and all the other media are lying. Given their admission in e-mails and text messages that they didn’t believe what they were saying is not helping their cause. What a shameless bunch of unprincipled hacks.
On March 1, the state gas tax went up 1.4 cents a gallon. The price at the pump went up over 30-35 cents a gallon. Which Republican did this math?
How kind of the Department of Justice to rule that Trump can be sued for damages resulting from the January 6th riot. Maybe the Justice Department says he can be sued, but you know that his bought-and-paid-for conservative majority on the Supreme Court will say he can’t be. No one is above the law except Trump. Trump just laughs at the law.
When you finally accept that Tucker, Hannity, Pirro and the rest of the FOX show hosts are merely paid actors, it puts everything into perspective.
I am glad that someone brought up the issue with long wait times at Meijer’s checkout lines. This is not a one-time or recent occurrence. This has been happening for years at the Highland store. One time, after waiting for 25 minutes in the checkout line that was barely moving, I noticed a manager standing and observing the lines. I asked her if she could open some more checkouts as we had already been waiting for 25 minutes and there were still several people in front of us. She said no, this is all we have. I sent an email to the corporate offices and there was no response. This must be acceptable business practice for them.
