An Aurora man has been charged with driving under the influence after a crash sent four vehicles into a creek in Yorkville, officials said.

Six people received minor injuries in the crash which occurred around 4:18 p.m. Sunday on Route 47 just north of Galena Road, Yorkville police said in a news release.

Jose Montenegro-Garcia, 44, of Aurora, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after his vehicle allegedly crossed over the center line and sideswiped two vehicles, officials said.

Police said Montenegro-Garcia’s vehicle then struck another vehicle head-on, with all four vehicles involved in the crash ending up in Rob Roy Creek, which runs next to Route 47.

The water level in the creek was very low, so no vehicles were submerged and there was no entrapment, police said.

Four of the people who were injured were taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora after the crash while two others who were injured were released on the scene.

Montenegro-Garcia was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and then was charged. He was later taken to the Kendall County jail for booking.
