So now we know that police officers took down the shooter in Nashville 14 minutes after the first call. That was a remarkable timing for the response but still wasn’t enough to stop the death of six innocent people, three of which were small children. When are you assault rifle owners going to ‘fess up to the fact that it’s not the good man with a gun taking down a bad person with a gun. It’s the guns. Get rid of the stupid assault rifles once and for all and let’s let our children be safe. Or would you rather play with your gun? It’s lunacy.

What a breath of fresh air, a human interest story in Tuesday’s Southtown that contained no mention of politics, mass shootings, trials or elections. It was about Lillian Melnick, who achieved the age of 100, and her love story that lasted 77 years with Edward, her husband, and the wonderful deeds she performed for her neighborhood children. It also covered the lasting impression she made on her children and grandchildren by her interest in their lives. What a feel-good story. Lillian, you earned all those 100 years and then some.

Paul in Tinley Park brags about all the acts that Biden has signed into law, and complains that Trump passed a tax bill costing $2 trillion. Biden has spread around $6 trillion which is why we have record inflation, rising interest rates and a soon-to-come recession.

Jim, Homewood

To JK from Tinley Park. I agree with you completely. Ted Slowik stated a phrase that really describe Trump as having a slithery escape from accountability. How come Republicans never raised political accusations at Trump when he fired the FBI director, replaced the attorney general and replaced the federal prosecutor of the Eastern District of New York, but now it’s political when the New York DA investigates him. He and his followers definitely were born on a one-way street. He has disgraced himself and the title president of the United States.
