Lockport police said Thursday there was not an active threat following a report Wednesday of a suspicious person with a weapon on the grounds of Butler School.

Officials in Homer Elementary School District 33C told families in social media posts that the school, 1900 Farrell Road, was placed on lockdown at about 1:25 p.m. Wednesday because a student reported seeing a suspicious individual on school grounds with a weapon.

The lockdown was later lifted after Lockport police were called and found no suspicious person on school property, according to the district.

Deputy police Chief Ron Huff said Thursday their investigation is completed at “at this point we don’t believe there was an active threat.”

The district said it was working with police and reviewing surveillance camera video. Huff said after examining video, police spoke with a resident who lives nearby because the student reported seeing the suspicious person run toward that home, Huff said.
