Niles Mayor George Alpogianis recently celebrated Greek Independence Day at the White House with President Joe Biden, the Archbishop of America for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and other Greek-American community leaders.
“It is a great honor for the Village of Niles to receive this invitation,” Alpogianis said in a press release. “I am humbled to be asked to visit Washington, and to do so is a great opportunity to represent the great people of Niles and to promote the wonderful initiatives we have going on in our town.”

Alpogianis also met actor Tom Hanks and his wife, the singer Rita Wilson, while at the White House. Per a press release, Alpogianis also spent some of his visit meeting with members of the congressional delegation who represent Niles.
