
A 29-year-old man was arrested following an hourslong search after a Romeoville police officer was shot during an exchange of gunfire early Thursday, police said.
At about 12:13 a.m., Romeoville officers were investigating a vehicle that had been reported stolen and as they approached, a man fled on foot. A foot pursuit ensued and officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, according to a Romeoville Police Department news release.
An officer was shot in the shoulder near the intersection of Sierra Trail and Summerville Drive shortly after 12:15 a.m. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. The officer’s condition was not immediately available.
Residents were asked to shelter in place during the search for the armed suspect.
The shelter in place order was lifted and a person was taken into police custody.
Charges were pending, police said.
