Several police departments across the Chicago area said they are planning this year to increase the number of officers working Memorial Day parades and ceremonies nearly a year after seven people were killed and dozens wounded during a mass shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park.
Meanwhile, Mayor Brandon Johnson released his plan to combat violence over the Memorial Day weekend that includes staples of previous administrations’ efforts to address and prevent shootings.
