The Kane County Sheriff’s Office is stepping up its traffic enforcement during the Fourth of July holiday with a focus on impaired and unbuckled drivers.

The campaign which began June 16 will run through the early morning hours of Wednesday.

“It’s simple: If you’re driving, don’t drink, use marijuana or other drugs,” Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain said in a statement. “Our officers will be working around the clock to keep impaired drivers off the roads and enforce all other traffic laws. We’re doing it to save lives.”

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office will join the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local police and sheriff’s departments for the increased statewide enforcement effort.

Police reminded people to designate a sober driver, to take mass transit or use ride-sharing apps if under the influence and to not let family and friends drive under the influence.

The campaign is funded by federal highway safety money administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
