Aurora Fire Department officials said fireworks potentially caused a small garage fire Tuesday night in the city.

Firefighters responded around 11:48 p.m. to the 1700 block of Fredericksburg Lane after receiving a report of smoke inside a townhome, department officials said in a news release.

Upon arrival, firefighters found light smoke showing from the garage and began to extinguish a small fire there, according to the release.

Residents said they were lighting off fireworks and had disposed of the remains in the garbage can in the garage, officials said.

Fire damage was contained to the garbage can and the home remained habitable, officials said.
