Two residents were treated for smoke inhalation after an apartment fire in Aurora on Monday, officials said.
The residents – a 26-year-old man and a 2-year-old boy – were transported in good condition to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation after a fire in their apartment in the 300 block of Old Indian Trail, Aurora Fire Department officials said in a press release Tuesday.
No other residents were injured during the fire, officials said.
At 12:29 a.m. Monday, Aurora Central Dispatch received a fire alarm notification for the apartment building, according to the release, with dispatchers then receiving multiple 911 calls from residents of the building stating there was a fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a three-story, 48-unit apartment building with smoke showing from a third-floor apartment, officials said.
The alarm was upgraded to a second alarm bringing 30 firefighters to the scene, according to the release.
Fire crews from the engine companies deployed hose lines to extinguish the fire in the apartment while firefighters from the truck companies performed a search for residents, officials said.
The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes, however, crews remained on the scene for over two hours checking for and extinguishing hot spots, officials said.
The apartment where the fire occurred was deemed uninhabitable, displacing two occupants, according to the release. Some of the other units on the third floor sustained minor smoke damage, however many residents on all floors were able to return to their apartments, officials said.
The building owner arrived on the scene and assisted the residents who were displaced or wished not to stay, according to the release.
There were no injuries to firefighters during the fire, the cause of which is under investigation, officials said.
