The Northbrook Park District and Congregation Beth Shalom are collaborating to host a Hanukkah-themed event to celebrate together this holiday season.
“Sing, Spin and Shine” will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Ave. in Northbrook, and will be led jointly by staff from the Park District and the congregation in the communal spirit of the holidays, according to a news release.
“We are looking forward to welcoming all attendees, whether they celebrate Hanukkah every year, or want to learn about and enjoy this festival for the first time,” said Erin Sweet, the Park District’s superintendent of arts and recreation. “Creating this new joyful, Hanukkah-themed event through collaborating with Congregation Beth Shalom allows us the unique opportunity to broaden our holiday offerings with, and for, our community.”
Congregation Beth Shalom is thrilled to join with the Northbrook Park District to offer this Hanukkah celebration for the whole community, Rabbi David Chapman, one of the congregation’s three full-time clergy members, said in the release.
“Hanukkah is all about adding more light to the world. That is exactly what we hope to do by building this partnership between our congregation and the broader community,” Chapman said.
The lineup of activities will include:
— Songs and stories led by staff and members of Congregation Beth Shalom
— Cookie decorating
— Dreidel games
— Crafts
— Hanukkah card-making
— Make your own Chanukiyah (Menorah)
The event is suitable for children ages 3 and up, the release saod. Children must be accompanied by adults; registration is per adult-child pair at $15 for residents and $19 for nonresidents; additional person registration is available at $9 for residents and $15 for nonresidents.
