An Aurora man was listed in critical condition at a local hospital following a Wednesday shooting on the city’s East Side, Aurora police said.

Shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aurora Police Department emergency dispatchers received calls about shots fired and a gunshot victim near Fifth Avenue and Bangs Street in Aurora, police said in a post on Facebook Thursday.

Officers arrived at the scene and found a 22-year-old Aurora man suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle, according to police.

Aurora Fire Department paramedics transported the man to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition, police said Thursday.

No other injuries were reported during the incident.

Detectives from the Aurora Police Department’s Investigations Bureau responded to the scene and began investigating the specific circumstances of the incident, police said. Evidence technicians also responded to the scene to identify and collect forensic evidence from the shooting, according to the Facebook post.

The investigation into the incident remains active, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call the Aurora Police Investigations Division at 630-256-5500.
