Emergency workers spent an hour and 45 minutes Monday removing a driver from a semi-truck following a crash on Interstate 394.
First responders in Crete were alerted about 8:15 a.m. of a major accident near the I-394 intersection with Goodenow Road, and discovered the semi-truck hauling scrap metal in a ditch along the highway, according to Crete Township fire Chief Donald Radtke.
Removing the driver took so long because of the way the semi-truck was positioned, the Crete Township Fire Protection District said in a news release. The driver was flown by helicopter Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was listed as stable Monday evening.
No other cars or people were involved in the crash, according to officials. The reason for why the truck to end up in a ditch is still unclear.
The Monday morning crash took place a day after another significant crash 10 miles north in Lynwood. At 12:45 a.m., Sunday, an accident at Glenwood Dyer Road and Torrence Avenue led to two patients requiring the use of the trauma alert systems, according to a traffic scanner report.
Lynwood fire did not respond to requests for comment.
