A public hearing on annexing and rezoning land in unincorporated Kendall County for a proposed 813-unit residential development in Oswego has been continued for a second time.

D.R. Horton Midwest is proposing to build Sonoma Trails on 228 undeveloped acres between the intersection of Wolf’s Crossing Road and Fifth Street and the southwest corner of Wolf’s Crossing Road and Roth Road.

The northwest and south portions of the property are currently in unincorporated Kendall County, Oswego officials said, with the rest in the village.

The Oswego Village Board approved a concept plan for Sonoma Trails in August 2022 which included a mix of single-family homes and multi-family units in the development.

The developer at the Jan. 9 Village Board meeting requested the public hearing be extended to Jan. 23 to give time to finalize the annexation agreement, a request the board approved. The public hearing was originally set in December before being moved to Jan. 9.

Village officials had said in addition to working on the annexation agreement, the developer is also working on “significant improvements” along Wolf’s Crossing that would be incorporated in the development.

The developer is also working on site plan modifications based on comments from the village’s Planning and Zoning Commission and Village Board members, village officials said.

D.R. Horton has expanded into 105 markets across 33 states since 2002. In the Chicago area, the firm has built more than 1,000 homes in communities that span from Wonder Lake in the north, Manhattan in the south, Hobart, Indiana, in the east and Yorkville/Oswego in the west, representatives have said.
