An Aurora City Council committee recently recommended about a $1 million contract for furniture in the new Public Works building on the far East Side.
Aldermen on the Infrastructure and Technology Committee recommended the $1.09 million contract with Batavia-based Interiors for Business, Inc. for the new furniture.
The bid includes using the Sourcewell and Omnia cooperative purchasing contracts.
“We have used them in the past,” said Ian Wade, of the city’s Engineering Division. He said the city used Interiors for Business for furniture in the recent renovation of the Human Relations Department.
Ald. Juany Garza, 2nd Ward, committee chair, asked if the city was able to use any of the old furniture to move it over to the new building. Wade said with the exception of a couple of tables from some of the shops, it was unable to because most of that furniture will be used by the employees moving into the old spaces.
“All the old stuff is going to be used,” he said.
The furniture is the final big contract for the new Public Works building between Liberty and New York streets, near County Line Road, on the far East Side.
The estimate for the final cost of the Public Works building is about $44 million.
The Public Works Department is consolidating the personnel and equipment from the Electrical, Streets, Fleet, Water and Sewer and Water Meter Maintenance divisions into the new, combined maintenance facility on the 25.4-acre site.
Earlier this year, the city approved a $1.4 million contract for the fueling station, a $952,690 contract for the technology requirements and a $227,650 contract for landscaping at the new facility.
