Aurora police are investigating the fatal shooting of a teenager Monday night on the city’s East Side, officials said.
At approximately 9:33 p.m. on Monday, May 19, Aurora police officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 500 block of Metropolitan Street, according to a press release Thursday from the Aurora Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers found a 17-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound, the release stated. Patrol officers immediately began life-saving efforts before Aurora Fire Department paramedics transported the teen to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where he was later pronounced dead, officials said.
Detectives from the Aurora Police Department’s Investigations Division responded to the scene, along with evidence technicians, to begin an investigation, according to the release.
While the investigation remains ongoing, police are encouraging the public to come forward with any information about the shooting, the release stated. Details about the shooting can be directed to the Aurora Police Department’s Investigations Division at 630-256-5500, police said.
