A 10-year-old girl was on a call on the Snapchat social media platform when she and her older sister were fatally stabbed by her brother last week in Streamwood, Cook County prosecutors alleged Wednesday.

Jalonie Jenkins, 25, is charged with murder in the slayings of Janiya Jenkins, 21, and Eyani Jones, 10, in their home in the 1600 block of McKool Avenue on May 28. Police sought him for several days before he was arrested Sunday in Downers Grove.

Prosecutors revealed new details about the killings in a petition to detain filed in court Wednesday, though Jenkins, who has been hospitalized, did not appear. He is scheduled for another court date Friday, but a judge has meanwhile ordered him detained.

In the petition, prosecutors said Eyani Jones was using the app to call a friend, who overheard parts of the attack.

The friend, a minor, heard Janiya Jenkins begging her brother not to kill the kids, according to the petition. Eyani then screamed for her friend to call 911.

During the attack, the victims’ 7-year-old brother came home and saw Eyani injured while Jalonie Jenkins held a bloody knife, the petition alleged. Jalonie Jenkins put the boy in the bathroom, where he heard a commotion inside the home.

The mother of the friend who heard the attack on Snapchat came to the home to check on the family, and saw the sisters, who were fatally wounded, the petition said.

Jalonie Jenkins packed bags and drove to a nearby park, where he tried to sell his car to people who declined, the petition said. He then left the vehicle, which had blood stains on it, at the park, the petition said.
