Three people were seriously injured Wednesday evening in a shooting in Ogden Park in the Englewood neighborhood, Chicago police said.
The victims, three men aged 25, 32 and 37, were struck by gunfire around 6:50 p.m. in the 6500 block of South Throop Street, according to Chicago police. All were taken to University of Chicago Hospital, police said: The 25-year-old man was wounded in the abdomen and buttocks and the 32-year-old man was shot multiple times, leaving both in critical condition, police said. The oldest victim was shot four times in the elbow, ribs and buttocks but was listed in good condition, police said.
At the scene of the shooting, a police sergeant and a uniformed detective paced back and forth across the roadway, working out where each victim had stood based on blood spatters. The victims were standing in the park when the gunman opened fire, police said.
Three civilian cars sat behind crime scene tape, including a black sedan with its rear passenger doors open. A pair of boots, discarded clothing and a hat were scattered among at least 15 orange cones marking shell casings.
As the police did their work, fireworks sounded in the distance, while a group of children continued to play, run, and shout at an adjacent playground.
No arrests had been made as Wentworth Area detectives were investigating.
This story has been updated to reflect corrected police information on the sex of one of the shooting victims.
