DYER MAN FACES PROBATION FOR INTIMIDATION

A Dyer man faces four years’ probation after signing a plea deal for breaking into his children’s mother’s home in 2023.

Samuel L. Reed III pleaded guilty March 6 to intimidation, according to court records.

As part of the plea deal, he would have to complete an abuse intervention program.

If a judge accepts, his sentencing is April 8.

Merrillville Police responded to the scene on July 31, 2023, in the 1500 block of W. 86th Lane over a fight, police said in a release. Upon investigation, the victim told police her child’s father, Reed, had broken into the house with a shotgun to confront her and another person, as he told one victim’s mother he was going to shoot them both and “he has nothing to lose and bond money,” according to court records.

As Reed approached the back room, he grabbed the victim by the throat and pushed her into a door, and once he got into the room with the other victim, he began fighting with him, records said. The first victim was able to get the shotgun away after it went off as the two men fought, records said.

HAMMOND MAN CHARGED WITH SEXUAL BATTERY AT DOLLAR STORE

A Hammond man is facing charges for sexual battery.

Jonathan Bradford, 39, was charged Monday with one count.

He is in custody, held on a $1,000 cash bond.

Schererville Police responded just before 6:30 p.m. March 8 to a Dollar Tree, 120 Indianapolis Boulevard.

The victim told police that Bradford touched her buttocks while she was shopping. She alleged he had done the same thing three times during her shift at another retail store. That store didn’t call the police.

Bradford told officers he didn’t mean for anything to happen at the Dollar Tree.
