The Winnetka Police Department and Northbrook Police Department have both announced they have suspects in custody for recent home invasions in both suburbs.
The Winnetka home invasion occurred around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, March 8, and in Northbrook, Northbrook police responded at about 2 p.m. Friday, March 20, to a 911 call reporting a home invasion in the 1900 block of Butternut Lane. Northbrook police said the subjects fled the area prior to officers arriving on scene.
In the Winnetka home invasion, police have said five suspects entered a home and held the resident at gunpoint as they demanded specific items. The victim, who was physically unharmed, was able to escape and contact authorities.
Both Winnetka and Northbrook police said they are actively investigating, in coordination with the ATF, FBI, Cook County Sheriff, Chicago Police Department and Glencoe Public Safety Department.
Northbrook and Winnetka police have both said they assess that there continues to be no immediate threat to the public. In an abundance of caution, however, police in both towns said they increased patrols in residential neighborhoods and encouraged residents to remain vigilant.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity and/or have home surveillance video, to contact them. Northbrook Police Department can be reached at (847) 564-2060. In Winnetka, call 847-501-6034 or email police@winnetka.org.
