A Gurnee man was critically injured Saturday evening when he was hit by two cars as he tried to cross Grand Avenue on foot, Gurnee police said.

The man, 54, whose name has not been released, was crossing the road east of the Dillys Road intersection at 7:54 p.m. when he was hit by a Honda CR-V.

The driver, an 81-year-old Beach Park woman, did not remain at the crash site, police said. Moments later, a pickup truck struck the man as he lay in the road, police said.

That driver, a 26-year-old Great Lakes woman, stopped her vehicle, and her truck was hit by a Kia driven by a North Chicago woman.

The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was brought to a hospital, police said. He was reported to be in critical condition on Monday, police said.

Grand Avenue was closed for several hours as police investigated. The woman driving the Honda was located later at her residence, police said.

Police said no charges have been filed as the investigation into the incident continues.
