The city of Gary hired Chenika Beck, a certified public accountant and Gary native, to be the next city controller.
Beck attended the Gary Community School Corporation and the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics and Humanities. She also received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Howard University and a master’s degree in accounting from Wake Forest University.
Beck previously worked at Deloitte and Ernst & Young, according to the city of Gary, and she’s invested in more than 25 Gary properties, “demonstrating her personal commitment to the city’s revitalization and long-term growth.”
Beck is replacing former City Controller Celita Green, and she will oversee the city’s financial operations.
“Gary has always been home, and this role represents a full-circle moment for me,” Beck said in a news release. “I am committed to supporting the city’s growth through transparency, accountability, and thoughtful financial leadership, ensuring that every decision is made with the long-term wellbeing of our community in mind.”
