PICKLEBALL CLINICS AT RAKOW CENTER (APRIL 13 – MAY 11)
Pickleball clinics for beginners will run from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and for advanced beginners from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Mondays April 13 through May 11 in the gym at the Rakow Center, 665 Barrington Avenue, Carpentersville.
The beginners class is for novices 18 and older who want instruction and practice combined with play, according to the Dundee Township Park District website. Each week will emphasize a few strokes and incorporate strategies for using them while playing.
This advanced beginners class is for players with some knowledge of the game who are working on hitting the ball consistently. The sessions will incorporate strategies with serves and returns, better shot placements, different shots, footwork, movement and communication.

ELGIN ON-STREET LEAF COLLECTION RUNS APRIL 13 – 16
The Elgin Public Works Department will offer a special on-street leaf collection from Monday, April 13, through Thursday, April 16.
The special collection is to make up for the final pickup week that was suspended due to a winter storm. This service is available to residents in the city’s four designated on-street collection areas, according to a news release.
Residents in designated areas should follow these guidelines:
Rake leaves to the curb line only.
Do not place leaves in traffic lanes.
Keep piles free of branches, rocks, and other debris.
Do not block sidewalks, driveways or storm drains.
Elgin residents can check to see if their address qualifies for on-street leaf collection by going online to elginil.gov/OnStreetLeaves.
SESSION ON ISSUES FOR SENIORS AT THE CENTREOF ELGIN (APRIL 15)
Elgin and Elgin Township will be hosting an informative session on the latest updates to senior driver’s license renewals and other topics from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, April 15 in the Heritage Ballroom at The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way, Elgin.
William Bogdan, Disability Liaison, Illinois Secretary of State’s Office, will talk about license renewal age requirements and about a parking program for persons with disabilities, according to a flyer for the event. Attorney Taylor Spooner will discuss powers of attorney, wills, trusts and basic Medicaid eligibility.

ELGIN FREE TREE BANK PLANTING PROGRAM DEADLINE APRIL 15
The application deadline for Elgin’s free, spring tree bank planting program is Wednesday, April 15.
Through this program, interested Elgin homeowners may request a new tree be planted in the tree bank by the city, or they may purchase and plant one themselves, according to the city’s website.
Tree planting requests are processed in the order they are received and according to the resources available. The city purchases its trees directly from a local nursery.
All trees planted by the city will be fully mulched and watered at the time of installation. Recipients are encouraged to water and provide easy, basic care for the tree for several years after a tree is planted.

ELGIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE OPEN HOUSE (APRIL 17)
Elgin Community College’s “Experience ECC” open house will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, in the Jobe Lounge, Building B, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.
“Visitors can enjoy campus tours, fun activities, and the opportunity to connect directly with faculty from academic programs and staff from student support areas,” ECC associate dean, Lauren Nehlsen, said in the release. “Whether someone is just starting to explore college or ready to enroll, we want every attendee to leave feeling welcomed, informed, and excited about what’s possible at ECC.”
New this year will be focused admissions and financial aid presentations from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and again from 6 to 6:30 p.m.
Tours being offered will include a behind-the-scenes look at career tech programs; a dive into culinary arts, theater and student support services; career paths in nursing and other health professions; exploring the world of math and science; one led in Spanish; and a general tour covering all the campus has to offer.
