A 62-year-old man was fatally injured overnight in a fire on the West Side where a 4-year-old and a woman were discovered standing outside the building, Chicago police said.

Shortly after 2:15 a.m., officers responded to a call of a fire in the 3400 block of West Monroe Street and found a 4-year-old and a woman standing outside on the sidewalk, police said.

Firefighters were on the scene to extinguish the fire, and discovered a man who was taken to Stroger Hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.

The woman and the child also were taken to the same hospital as a precaution and both were listed in good condition.

Officials were investigating the cause of the fire.
