
SERVICES SET FOR VET WITH NO KNOWN KIN
A public visitation for Christopher Emanuel Jones, a U.S. Army veteran without any known next of kin, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin.
Jones, 63, died Feb. 23, according to a news release. Born in Detroit, he served in the Army from 1981 to 1984 and received an honorable discharge. In later years, he was employed at Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin.
“We’re asking the community to come out and honor this man who served his country,” Daniel Symonds, an Army veteran and owner of Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, said in the release. “No veteran should be laid to rest alone. If you’ve ever worn the uniform, supported someone who has or simply believe in honoring those who served, please consider attending.”
Interment with full military honors will take place at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Both services are open to the public.

MASTER CHORALE CONCERT TO BE HELD SUNDAY
Elgin Master Chorale will present its “That This Nation Shall Live” concert at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at the Blizzard Theatre in Building H on the Elgin Community College campus.
Contemporary works by American composers Stacy Garrop and Marques L.A. Garrett that explore the beauty, fragility and resilience of the world will be performed, according to a news release. Garrop will speak before the show from 2:45 to 3:15 p.m.
The Elgin Youth Choir and a children’s chorus from Hampshire Middle School will collaborate on some songs. The Conservation Foundation, Elgin Sustainability Commission and Art for All have connected the program to environmental work in Kane County.

ECC HOLDING SPRING JOB FAIR THIS WEDNESDAY
Elgin Community College will host its spring job fair from 9 a.m to noon Wednesday, April 22, at the Events Center in Building J on the Elgin campus.
The free fair will feature more than 100 local employers from a range of industries, including manufacturing, health care, business, child care and IT, a news release said.
No registration is required. Participants should bring copies of their resumes to share with employers.

PROGRAM ON DUNDEE LIBRARY’S 150-YEAR HISTORY
The Fox River Valley Library District will hold “Our Library’s 150-Year History: A Historical Review with Phil Aleo” from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at the Rakow Center, 665 Barrington Ave, Carpentersville.
Aleo’s free slide presentation will detail the history and development of the Dundee Township Library, which today is known as the Fox River Valley Public Library District, according to the district’s website.
Topics covered will include the influence alcohol had on starting the library; the 1871 Chicago Fire and its impact; language in which the library’s first books were written; and the library’s various locations over the decades.

‘CINDERELLA’ BALLET COMING TO THE HEMMENS
World Ballet Company will present “Cinderella” from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at The Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin.
The production offers a mix of classical ballet and Broadway-style theatricality, according to the company’s website. It features grand sets, more than 150 hand-sewn costumes and a style blending humor, romance and choreography.
