Portions of Chicagoland are expected to have showers and thunderstorms in the overnight hours as a line of storm systems moves into several counties, according to the National Weather Service.
Weather officials said along with the showers and possible thunderstorms, there is a potential for wind gusts up to 50-60 mph and small hail.
There is a 60% chance of showers in parts of northeast and north central Illinois, including central, northern and southern Cook; and northern, southern and eastern Will counties. Officials said these conditions are also expected in northwest Indiana.
The line of storms is expected to hit the area between 2 and 4 a.m. Friday, with new rainfall totals between one-tenth to a quarter of an inch possible, officials said. In recent days, some areas near rivers experienced flooding as rivers were at the edge of cresting banks.
Most locations are expected to remain elevated into the weekend with water levels falling little until early next week, according to weather officials.
Along the Fox River, from Chain of Lakes to Montgomery, the river crest occurred on Wednesday into Thursday, weather officials said.

Elgin near the Riverside Treatment Plant is expected to crest Thursday into Friday. South Elgin Dam is expected to crest Thursday into Friday.
Montgomery is expected to crest on Saturday, but is expected to remain relatively steady into next week.
Showers are expected to continue into Friday before 1 p.m., with a possible thunderstorm between 1 and 4 p.m. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 70s, officials said.
On Saturday, the high temperatures will drop to the low 50s, with a chance of showers before temperatures land in the high 40s. Sunday temps are expected in the low 50s, with a chance of showers after 1 a.m.
